I tend to gravitate towards my “colour comfort” zone when I am pushed for time. I buy key pieces I want to be able to easily mix and match with my existing wardrobe. Navy and cream is a colour combo I love because it looks fresh in summer, and can be styled for rich/darker winter tones.
Working with your shape is also an important consideration when adding some other elements to “finish” your look off. A wide belt can take any plain outfit to the next level. Giving yourself a waist, especially if you are wearing looser or flowing dresses, helps you to appear slimmer because you are losing some of that bulk around the waist.
Similarly if belts tend to cut you off look at what body part you can accentuate. It might be your legs or arms. Look at how you can style your outfit to give yourself the best shape and show off those features you like.
